Killeavy 2-06 Killeavy 0-15

The final piece of the weekend's championship action took place in Keady on Sunday evening as our hurlers faced Middletown. With injuries robbing the team of a number of key players, they took time to settle and it was 17 minutes before Paul McArdle scored their first point. At that stage, they were already six points down as Middletown, aided by a very strong breeze, scored some excellent long range points. Unfortunately for Killeavy, the wind died in the second half but they still managed to fight their way back into contention. Superb free-taking from Conor Hannaway, a lovely point from Stephen McShane and a goal from John Kelly left only three points between the teams with ten minutes left but Middletown increased the gap again with three points of their own. The intensity of the match resulted in a couple of flare-ups that left each team reduced to fourteen men. Killeavy rallied again and Joe Grant scored a fine opportunist goal to once again leave just a puck of the ball between the sides. Killeavy were now laying siege to the Middletown goal but were forced to drop the ball in looking for that elusive three-pointer and the final chance of a replay disappeared when a Cathal McGuinness effort flashed across the goal. The final whistle came on the puck-out to Killeavy's massive disappointment and Middletown's relief.
