U16 Championship Final Replay: Killeavy 0-08 Pearse Og 3-12

After last weeks dramatic comeback, Killeavy faced up to Pearse Og again on Sunday evening in fine and dry conditions in Ballymacnab. Killeavy failed to get the explosive start of the previous week, but Caolan Trainor did register an early point. Killeavy were soon under pressure as Pearse Og then ran out to a 4-1 lead. There was brief respite, when Ciaran O'Hanlon hit two great consecutive long range points from play, following good work by Donall O'Neill and Niall Hollywood. Pearse Og were again in the ascendancy with possession, but a few wayward shots meant Killeavy were well in touch on the scoreboard. A Michael Boyle point and a long free from Caolan Trainor left the score at 6-5 to Pearse Og as half time approached. However, disaster struck as a long free to the Killeavy square was caught and buried to the Killeavy net by Ryan Gribben.

Half Time: Killeavy 0-05 Pearse Og 1-06

Pearse Og lost midfielder Conleth McGillan through injury, and this forced full forward Ternan Donnelly to midfield at the start of the second half. The switch worked very much to Ogs advantage,as the big Pearse Og player started the half with two magnificent points from forty yards. Killeavy weren't looking as threatening as the previous week and never really hauled themselves back into contention. Ogs second goal after fifteen minutes of the half really dealt a hammer blow to any thoughts Killeavy had of a comeback. Despite this, and a second yellow card for Sean McEvoy, the team battled gamely to the end, and added two points from the boot of Caolan Trainor. It was apt that Killeavy's final score came from outstanding centre half back Sean Kiernan, who battled manfully throughout the hour. The team was very disappointed to lose, but credit to all involved on a very successful season, and very well played by Pearse Og, who played a great and thoroughly deserved their win. Killeavy's team was Cathal Fearon, Calum Mone, Michael Murphy, Jason Larkin, Donal O'Neill, Sean Kiernan(0-1), Stephen McVeigh, Sean McEvoy, , Ciaran O'Hanlon(0-2 ), Michael Boyle(0-1), Caolan Trainor(0-4, 1F), Kealan O'Hare(0-1), Niall Hollywood, Niall Hannaway, Niall King. Subs used: Ciaran Magennis.
