Minor Championship: Killeavy 0-09 Harps 0-11
A tremendous effort from our lads but in the end it was the old story of wasteful shooting that ruined Killeavy's chances of causing a huge upset against defending champions Armagh Harps in the County Minor final last Sunday. Harps started brightly, opening the scoring straight from the throw-in and they took full advantage of a couple of Killeavy errors to add another three points to lead by 0-04 to 0-00 after fifteen minutes. Killeavy had some early chances but kicked three wides before Paddy Faloon opened our account after 16 minutes. Four more wides followed plus a missed goal opportunity before Conor King scored our only other point of the first half. Two further points from the Harps sent the teams in at the break ArmaghHalf Time: Killeavy 0-02 Harps 0-06
A Caolan Trainor free and a point from James Donnelly narrowed the gap to just two points but this was as close as Killeavy got. Tremendous free taking from Harps corner forward Padraig Rafferty kept their score ticking along and points from James Donnelly, Caolan Trainor and Conor King (2) just about managed to keep Killeavy in touch. Trailing by three going into the last minute, Killeavy had one last chance of salvaging a draw but a 20 yard effort from substitute Ryan Stokes just went the wrong side of the crossbar. The referee blew for time on the resulting kickout to leave Killeavy hearts broken but heads held high. The club would like to thank Tony Kearney, Martin Boyle and the team for their efforts. We are also grateful to JK Fabrication who sponsored new training tops for the final and to main team sponsors McEvoy Drapery.Full Time: Killeavy 0-9 Harps 0-11
