U16 Final: Killeavy 1-11 Crossmaglen 0-06

Last night in Cullyhanna, Killeavy completed the South Armagh double by adding the Under 16 League title to the Championship they had won the previous week by defeating Crossmaglen on a scoreline of 1.11 to 0.06. Killeavy raced into a commanding 1.04 to 0.00 lead after 15 minutes with points from Niall Hannaway, Caolan Trainor (2) and Ciaran O'Hanlon and a brilliantly taken goal by the team captain Caolan Trainor who had just made it home from Lourdes to take his place at centre field. Cross got off the mark with two well taken points and the teams swapped a brace of points to leave the half time scoreboard Killeavy 1.06 Crossmaglen 0.04.

On the resumption Cross increased their effort playing a physical brand of football and reduced the deficit to one major score after kicking two points, one from play - the other from a free. After some good build up play between Michael Murphy, Ciaran O'Hanlon and Donal O'Neill, the speedy Kealan O'Hare finished the move with a beautiful point. With Killeavy now on top Niall Hannaway won a free and Caolan Trainor coolly converted from 40 yards. Caolan Moan, Sean McEvoy and the recently returned from injury Michael Murphy in the full back line were excellent in repelling a Crossmaglen attack that were looking for goals in the final quarter. A Crossmaglen comeback looked imminent; however a great solo effort from Donal O'Neill, passing three opponents and slotting the ball over the bar had the momentum swing back Killeavy's direction. With 10 minutes remaining Michael Boyle went on a powerful run down the wing, slipped a pass inside to the onrushing Ciaran O'Hanlon who chipped over for a point. Caolan Trainor completed the scoring to end with a personal total of 1.05. Great praise must go to this group of players who have worked hard to improve their skills and achieve a tremendous League and Championship double.
