Killeavys minor team continued the successful run that the club is having by lifting the
South Armagh League Division 1 title on Monday evening. This title was the seventh trophy
won by Killeavy this year adding to the success of our u12, u14 and B teams.
On a night best suited to sitting at a turf fire, both teams put on a display of football
worthy of comparison with the Kerry-Galway match played in similar weather conditions in
Croke Park.
With St. Patricks dominating the early exchanges but unable to turn their advantage into
scores. They did register the first two points but with their first serious attack,
Killeavy?s full forward James Donnelly stroked a lovely point to set the tone for the
next 50 minutes. St. Patricks could not cope with Donnelly and Sean Og Duffy up front
or break a solid defence led by Christopher McKnight. A goal by Sean Og lit the game up
but was quickly answered by St. Patricks leaving Killeavy ahead at the break by the slimmest
of margins at 1.05 ? 1.04.
Half-Time: Killeavy 1-05 St Patricks 1-04
The heavens opened just before half-time but the standard of play never dropped in the
second half. Killeavy's ability to not give away frees paid dividends as Niall O'Neill
and Caolan Trainor punished St. Pat's indiscretions. Sean Og found the net again after
ood work by James Donnelly to give us a seven point lead with ten minutes left. St. Pat's
tried hard to come back but Killeavy had leaders all over the pitch and James McGuinness,
Conor King and Mickey Reel closed out any threat. A consolation goal for St. Pats came in
the last minute but Killeavy had already done enough to seal a great win.
Well done to managers Martin and Tony who are already looking ahead to the start of the
championship against Silverbridge on Sunday. We wish them well.
