U14 Feile Final: Dromintee 0-6 Killeavy 3-10

The South Feile final between Killeavy was moved from 12pm to 4-30pm due to early morning snow. When throw-in time care around, the snow was gone, the pitch was firm, but the cold and wind were truly artic and blew right at Dromintees back in the first half. Killeavy's opening score came from midfield supremo Ciaran O'Hanlon, the first of seven scores for a player who probably shaded man of the match honours on the day. Niall Hollywood added a second from a superb pass by Kealan O'Hare, and Killeavy had settled very well. Gary Donaghy then fisted a ball to the net, it looked a good goal, but the referee gave square ball. Donaghy was not to be denied, however, and the next ball in, the big full-forward collected it and shot to the roof of the Dromintee net. Dromintee then had a fifteen minute spell on top, and tipped over a few nice points to regain parity. They kicked four wides in a row at one stage, and Killeavy fullback Michael Murphy was putting on a magnificent show at full back to keep them at bay. Killeavy went in level at the break, but they looked strong favourites to turn wind advantage in their favour in the second half.

Half time: Dromintee 0-6 Killeavy 1-03

A few early wides from frees had some Killeavy fans worried, but the strong running mIchael Boyle eventually added the lead score after ten tense minutes of play. Straight from the kickout Ciaran O'Hanlon added another. Killeavy squandered a few chances but playing into the teeth of the gale, Dromintee couldnt muster much on an attacking front. Killeavy eventually made their territorial and possession advantage pay, kicking a few more points before a beautiful chipped goal by Gary Donaghy but the game out of Dromintee's reach. Donaghy almost had a hat-trick, but several great saves from the Dromintee keeper kept the goal tally down. A late goal from the super speedy Kealan O'Hare sealed an excellent victory for a very determined Killeavy side. Both sides are to be commended on serving up some great football in extremely difficult conditions, and each side showed exemplary discipline that many senior teams would do well follow their example. Its great to see a trophy in Killeav so early in the year, lets hope this team can land the All County crown later in the month. The semi-final is scheduled for Monday 14th April. Lets have a big crowd of supporters out for the lads!!
