Minor League: St Brigids 0-09 Killeavy 0-12
On Monday night killeavy played St. Brigids in Whitecross, conditions were perfect and Killeavy had no injury worries which made for a good game. Killeavy again for the second time in successive games got off to the better start, with two good runs from Eugene Coogan from the half back line, but again in the final third they failed to make it count as they did vs cullyhanna the week before. The manager must have thought this would be the case again, but with some good play and score taking from both Cathal mc Guinness and Conor king ensured that killeavy would get a good lead with ten minutes into the game. Brigids then hit back with some good play from Steven Matthews and Francis Gorman. Also at times the killeavy defence could not cope at times with the running of the half back and midfielders of Brigids but some bad misses on their behalf kept killeavy ahead. This meant the game was tied until Conor King again put over some good free’s to give Killeavy a two point lead. Killeavy had good possession throughout the game which was partly down to there Midfielder James Donnelly who’s first half display set the standard for the rest of the team. Some good display of football also shown from Conor Mc Nulty, Conor King and James Mc Guinness also a well taken score from Sean Faloon ensured that killeavy went into the break 0-5 to 0-3 up.Half-Time: St Brigids 0-3 Killeavy 0-5
In the second half Brigids started off strong with some good scores turning the game around for them, which seen them lead by a couple of points for the first time in the match. It was to be the last thing that they did for a good while though as killeavy took over total possession and made a good few chances in front of goal with Sean Og Duffy posing a threat at goal on 3 occasions before scoring a wonderful point with his back to goal. Also some great play from James Mc Guinness and Conor king which combined into some well taken scores from Mc Guinness and King. Brigids got one or two frees which were put over by Steven Matthews from close range. Until a good score from Conor Carnegie who came on as a sub and made an instant impact with a good strike from 35 yards out which ended up as a good point and another point from Sean Faloon which seen killeavy getting a good 3 point lead, but in there was constant pressure from the Brigids half forward line and midfield who posed a threat all the way through but good catching and passing displays from Christopher Mc Knight In full back and David Mulholland in nets ensured that there was no fairy tale comeback for St. Brigids. In the end it was the possession that killeavy had all over the park that lead to there win. Defiantly a big improvement needed for there next game against Silverbridge next Monday night. But the win is important as killeavy got there first win in the league of 2008. Good for Killeavy were Christopher Mc Knight, James Donnelly, Mickey Reel, Sean Og Duffy and Conor King.Full-Time: St. Brigids 0-9 Killeavy 0-12
