Killeavy 0-17 Pearse Og 1-13

After a great drawn tussle between these sides in the league last year in Killeavy, the match with Pearse Og on Sunday afternoon was much anticipated. With arguably the three best players in the county on show, in McDonnell, Clark and Mallon, and pleasant weather conditions, the match really turned into a magnificent spectacle, full of great scores and some wonderful play by both sides. Killeavy played with the aid of the breeze, but it was Ogs who looked the more dangerous outfit and raced away to a five points to two point lead. The Killeavy scores were frees from Stevie, who hit 6 frees and seven points in all over the hour. From the fifteenth minute until half time Killeavy put in a glorious display of attacking football, kicking points from all angles. Impressive scores from half back Barry McKevitt(2), Mark Stanfield and Barry Magee were mixed in with a sprinkling of frees by Stevie McDonnell(3). It was a joy to watch, and Killeavy looked well placed moving towards the break, but a last minute penalty for Ogs stifled Killeavy. Paul Duffy drove the penalty to the top corner of the Killeavy net to level the game at half time.

Half-Time: Killeavy 0-9 Pearse Og 1-6

Pearse Og would ave been content with the drawn scoreline at half time, as they turned around to play with wind advantage. Indeed, things looked ominous for Killeavy when two poor defensive mistakes led to two simple frees for the Ogs. However, Killeavy sprung back to life after an inspirational point from McDonnell from the right wing. Barry Magee and Stevie Malone were also torturing the Ogs halfback line and Magee kicked an impressive point to level. It was point for point between the sides all the way to the final whistle. Killeavy hit seven points from play in the second half, further scores coming from Anthony O'Hare(2), Magee again, Shane Boylan, and a super effort from Ryan McConville. The Ogs looked dangerous right to the end, but couldnt get in front of a focused Killeavy outfit. A final free from Stephen McDonnell was the icing on the cake for a wonderful team display and victory for Killeavy. Since the poor defeat to Cross, Killeavy have really responded brilliantly, and young players like Ryan McConville and Barry Magee are stating to show their undoubted talent at senior level. Four points from the weekend will see Killeavy well up the table, and to beat teams like the Ogs and Dromintee with their county players playing, is very encouraging. Well done to all involved, and keep it up.
