Killeavy 2-08 Dromintee 0-08

This big local derby game was played in fine, sunny, conditions on Friday night in Killeavy. Both teams had their county players available for the game, and Shane and Gareth O'Neill in the middle of the field gave Killeavy problems early on. Despite an abundance of possession and the aid of the breeze, Dromintee failed to put points on the board, kicking eight wides in the half. Two frees from Micheal O'Rourke had them in the lead early, but a great point from play by Stevie was followed by an Anthony O'Hare goal. The fullback appeared to go completely missing as O'Hare picked up the ball in front of the goal without a defender within twenty yards. He finished with a neat low shot to the corner. A free from Stevie and a good score from Barry McKevitt gave Killeavy breathing space, and they looked the more productive side in possession. The teams traded two points apiece (McDonnell 2) and Killeavy held a great 4 point lead at the break.

Half-Time: Killeavy 1-05 Dromintee 0-04

The second half saw Killeavy in the driving seat, Dromintee finding it difficult to break down a tight Killeavy backline. The death knell came fifteen minutes from the end, when a long ball into the forward line saw Anthony O'Hare dissect the defence with a great support run, and he buried an emphatic shot into the net from thirteen yards. Dromintee only managed one point from play and three frees from Micheal O'Rourke in the half, while Stevie McDonnell hit two frees and Anthony kicked the other point. This was a great victory for Killeavy that boosted their position in the top half of the table.
