Killeavy 0-09 Crossmaglen 0-10

Killeavy Bs faced Cross at home in the South Championship on Sunday afternoon. It was cool and breezy, with the pitch wet in places. Killeavy played with a sizeable breeze in the first half. Cross opened the scoring with a good point from a midfielder. Killeavy were slow out of the blocks, a lot of balls into the forward line were aimless, with youngsters Ryan Stokes and Niall O'Neill more suited to low balls in front, rather than long high deliveries. Johnny McKevitt was the man to stady the ship and clip over three tremendous points, two from outside fifty yards. It was remarkable then, that he missed a 13 yard free from straight in front a few moments later. Both defences were well on top in the fifteen minutes before half time, but Killeavy did get two fine points from a great Paddy Malone solo run and score, and a lovely finish from Ryan Stokes.

Half-Time: Killeavy 0-5 Crossmaglen 0-3

Two points looked like a precarious lead, with Killeavy facing a strong second half breeze. They got an early boost, with a good point from Shane Boylan. Scores were hard to come by after this, and Cross edged their way back into the match. Killeavy did not help themselves, losing several balls overplaying static passes across their own half back line. This gifted Cross several points, and they hit the front with ten minutes to play. Killeavy did have a few chances from frees, but these were missed, and a late Cross point seemed to seal it. John McKevitt got a point right at the end, but there was no time for Killeavy to press for an equaliser. This was a tight game that could have gone either way, but unfortunately Killeavy came up a point short.
