Killeavy's senior footballers completed the winning double over our neighbours Dromintee in the penultimate league match of the season in the Memorial Park
on Sunday afternoon. Killeavy were given a boost with the return to club colours of Steven McDonnell who lined out at corner-forward while Dromintee also
had their county players back on duty. Both teams had already confirmed their survival in Division 1 so there was less edge to this encounter than in the
reverse fixture two weeks ago.
Killeavy started fairly well but couldn't quite get their act together up front sending the majority of their first half chances wide of the post.
Dromintee stayed in touch with the home team, mainly through frees and at half-time turned round a point in front at 0.05 ? 0.06.
Half-Time: Killeavy 0-06 Dromintee 0-05
The second half saw Killeavy strike early with a goal from half-back Colm Byrne who sauntered through a static Dromintee defence for his second goal of the season.
In the very next attack, Killeavy wrapped up the game with a fisted goal. Anthony O'Hare then had a chance for a third Killeavy goal but his powerful effort just
grazed the top side of the bar for a minor score.
Paul Watters had a very strong performance throughout and he marshalled his defence to cancel out any threat that Dromintee could pose while up front,
Anthony O'Hare and Mark Stanfield were a threat throughout.
Amazingly after their flirtation with relegation, this win pushes Killeavy up into third in the league table, a very respectable finish for their first year
back in top level. The win also keeps momentum going for their next match, the first round championship games against Maghery on Saturday week.
This match has been fixed for Pearse Og Park at 6.00pm and we look forward to a large crowd of Killeavy Gaels travelling to support the team.
