Senior Football Division 2: Killeavy 0-13 Pearse Og 0-12
It was the top two playing off in Killeavy on Sunday afternoon, with high-flying Pearse Og the visitors.
Although they had already comfortably won the league, Ogs were keen for revenge on a Killeavy side that inflicted one of only
two defeats in the division this year. For their part, Killeavy had won their last three in the league, with all of their competitors for the play-offs heading
in the wrong direction. Killeavy started with a strong breeze in what was possibly the most entertaining thirty minutes of football seen in the park this year.
They had made wholesale changes to the defence, the goalkeeper and entire fullback line that beat Cullaville the week before not in action.
The first score came for Killeavy and was the best of the game, Stuart Stokes beating the Ogs fullback to the ball and winning a free. A sixty yard ball from Liam O'Hare to
full-forward Raymie Teggart, who placed Mark Stanfield for a stunning score. Teggart had a great hour and set up Stevie McDonnell for a close range point moments later. Ogs to their credit,
struck back, their full-forward JJ Clarke scoring two good points from play. Clarke was unfortunate to be stretchered off with a bad ankle injury at half-time. Pearse Og played a sideline ball back to
the keeper, but the ball comically went out for a 50, which McDonnell fired over. Teggart again won primary possession at full forward for Gordy Magennis to fire another point. McDonnell hit three frees before the half with Paul Watters
and Seamus Toner also banging over further excellent points from play. The Ogs were also productive and kept well in touch, only three behind at the break and wind advantage to follow.
Half-Time:Killeavy 0-9 Pearse Og 0-6
The rain came for the second half, as Killeavy dug in defensively. The high scoring first half was replaced by a tense, hard-hitting defensive game. Ogs opened the second half account straight from the throw-in, Gregory Loughran breaking from
midfield to score. Their second score ten minutes later left only a point between the sides. Killeavy rallied after this, Paul Watters sending the excellent McDonnell in for a point, before Raymond Teggart hit two wonderful points from play, great tackling
from James Duffy setting up the first. With four between the sides Ogs pressed hard and Padraig Duffy hit two good points. With a minute to play, the equaliser flew over from Kieran Hughes from forty yards. The game seemed set for a draw, which would probably have been
enough to send Killeavy into the play-offs, but up popped Coly Byrne from half-back to pick up a break and fire over a dramatic winner. A sweet victory for Killeavy. Four in a row, bring on the play-offs!!!
