Senior Football Challenge: Killeavy 0-12 St. Mary’s Ardee 0-14
On a very pleasant Good Friday evening, St Mary's Ardee came to Killeavy for a very useful competitive challenge match. Killeavy made quite a few changes from the team
that drew with Clann Eireann last week, but still started the game in fine fashion. With Barry McKevitt attacking very effectively from half back, Justin Reel using his
strength well around the midfield sector, and Gary Reel covering every blade of grass, Killeavy put on a fine attacking show to move three points ahead of the highly rated
Louth outfit. They managed seven points, all from play in the half, the pick of which came from John McKevitt and Paddy Hannaway. However, some slack defending at times, mixed
in with some clinical freetaking kept Ardee right in the game at halftime, with only one score between the sides.
Half-Time: Killeavy 0-07 St Mary’s 0-06.
The second half continued in a similar vein, Killeavy missing Justin Reel's presence when he left the field injured. Killeavy added further points from Paddy Hannaway, Barry McKevitt
and Gareth O'Hare, but just couldn't manage to finish off the Ardee challenge. In the last fifteen, the economy of the Louth forwards, and in particular the conversion of some slack frees
saw Ardee run out winners by two points. Killeavy will be happy with the quality of the challenge match, but conceded too many frees, whilst mananging to miss most of theirs.
Again they failed to play well in the final ten minutes, which may worry the management. Paddy Hannaway topscored for Killeavy with four points on the night. Evan Quigley asked me not to mention
his less than impressive attempt for a point from 21 yards in front of the posts.
