Killeavy 2-06 Ardtrea 3-16
Killeavy went into this Ulster Junior Quarter final against Derry champions Ardtrea, knowing they were up against a strong side, who had recently won the All Ireland Junior Sevens, and won their preliminary round game with plenty to spare. Killeavy started fairly steadily, but as the half evolved, it was clear that the Derry team had a great free-taker, and in left half forward Alisha Wilkinson, surely one of the best, and quickest ladies footballers in the province. Killeavy did appear to be able to worry the Derry side's backline when they attacked, but Ardtrea had most of the possession. Aileen Matthews got Killeavy's first point, after an Anne Marie Murtagh shot was cleared off the line. Ardtrea kicked several frees, before Wilkinson hit 1-2 in two minutes to send Ardtrea into a comfortable lead they never looked like giving up. A Sarah Doran free and two further scores from Aileen Matthews at the end of the half made up the Killeavy scorers for the half.
Killeavy ladies are disappointed after the final whistle.
Half Time: Killeavy 0-04 Ardtrea 2-09
Killeavy started the second half very well, and a long high ball into the Ardtrea square, saw Sinead Mallon score an excellent Killeavy goal. This was followed up by points from Sarah McDonald and Aileen Matthews. This valiant burst from Killeavy eventually ran out of steam, as Ardtrea went on to dominate the next twenty minutes. Nicola Cromie made a couple of excellent saves, and the team played courageously throughout. Killeavy did get some consolation towards the end, when AnneMarie Murtagh converted a penalty to the net. At the end, the girls got a tremendous ovation from the appreciative Killeavy faithful, after a very successful championship season. Ardtrea will take some stopping in this competition.Team: N.Cromie, A.Mallon, C. Mallon,F.Quinn, C.McConville, Sinead Reel, F.Reel,Una Hollywood, A.M.
