Division 1: Derrynoose 4-6 Killeavy 6-7

Killeavy made a winning start to their 2nd season in Division 1 with a good win away to Derrynoose? Killeavy had a full selection of players with Armagh having finished their league campaign apart from captain Sinead Reel picking up a knock and unable to start. Killeavy started the better in the game and went quickly ahead with Aileen Matthews grabbing a fortuitous goal from long range. Jo Shields added a point before Aoife Lennon grabbed a goal and a point to tie it up. Derrynoose then got 2 slack goals in a matter of 2 mins and Killeavy were now chasing the game. Sarah Doran who had a great hour linked up with Aileen and Jo to finish off a great move with the 2nd goal. Derrynoose then added 3 points from play and Doran got another to leave the half time score trailing 3-4 - 2-2

Half time: Derrynoose 3-4 Killeavy 2-2

The Killeavy management made a few changes to the team at half time to try and change the game. Sinead Reel came on in the forward line for young Niamh Doran and Grainne Keenan came in for the injured Frances Quinn. Both girls were making their senior debuts. Killeavy flew out of the traps in the second half, and within 5 mins they were back in the game. With great ball going into the forward line, Aileen Matthews hit a goal and a point. They then dominated the next 15 mins with the defence playing outstandingly and Sharon Reel dominating midfield, covering every blade in the process. In this 15 min period the forwards hit 2-4 from play, with great goals coming from Marianne Watters and Sinead Mallon, Sinead also hitting a point along with 2 from Aileen. A sixth goal from Sharon Reel put the game out of sight with less than 10 mins to go. Derrynoose had be tamed by the Killeavy strong defence. The Aoife Lennon threat had been thwarted and they only scored a single point from play the whole 2nd half. A late harsh Penalty gave Lennon her 2nd goal as she took it well. She added a free but then Jo shields finshed it off with a good point to leave the Final score 6-7 ? 4-6. A great start to the Season made by the girls and some great performances from the young players coming through. Una Hollywood, Ceire McConville were solid and quick throughout, Sarah Doran played great up front with Aileen and was involved with almost every score throughout. A great performance from all, too many to name!! The team must keep their feet on the ground though, because there are much harder games ahead. Lissummon at home is next on sat at 7.

Killeavy Minor Ladies Team

Killeavy Ladies created history on Thursday night, for our first time ever we entered a minor team into the Armagh league and Championship. We played Carrickcruppen who are currently County Champions, and our girls did extremely well for their first time together. Management of Sinead Reel, Bernard Hannaway and Neil Hughes were extremely impressed with the effort and determination our girls showed especially the younger members of the panel. They never dropped their heads and kept up a good fighting spirit to the end. There will be a slight break in the minor league for exams now and then back to league action in a couple of weeks. Team line out was Lynda Keenan, Sarah Mc Gennity, Grainne Keenan, Shannon Toner, Carly Reel, Una Hollywood (captain), Nicola Cromie, Sinead Mallon, Francis Quinn, Eimear Mooney, Ceire Mc Conville(V Capt), Niamh Doran, Maeve O Neill, Sarah Doran, Majella Shields.

Killeavy U12 Ladies
