U16’s reach County Final
Killeavy 1-15 St Peters 1-8
Friar Tucks sponsored Killeavy u16s showed a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde character when they faced St. Peter’s in the semi-final of the county championship
last night. A lethargic opening saw them fall 1.04 – 0.00 behind before staging a bit of a revival to trail by 1.07 to 0.04 at the break. Indeed St Peters also missed a penalty and several good goal chances during the opening half.
Team managers Gerry Mallon and Gerard Reel obviously struck the right note at half-time because the team came out firing on all cylinders after the break. They completely owned the midfield sector and stormed forward at every opportunity with superb team work leading to a flurry of scores. A goal and three points saw Killeavy level within five minutes of the restart and from then on there was only ever going to be one winner.
The turnaround was such that Killeavy scored 1.11 without reply and St. Peter’s only score of the second half was a pointed free with the last kick of the game. The team face a long wait now until the September final where they will meet either Crossmaglen or Silverbridge where a full 60 minutes of football will be needed before bringing home the silverware.
