U16 Ulst Final 2010 Killeavy v Glen

Killeavy 0-05 Glen (Derry) 1-11

Having had a great run to the final of the Ulster U16 Championship, defeating County finalists from Donegal, Antrim and Down, Killeavy were just not able to overcome Glen from Derry on Sunday afternoon in Dromore, Co. Tyrone. Despite being dealt the blow of losing their fullback to sickness before the throw in, Killeavy started this encounter all guns blazing. All lines were playing well against very strong opponents, and three fine early points from Niall Hollywood, Michael Murphy and Ciaran O’Hanlon, saw Killeavy race into an early lead.
A poorly conceded goal after fifteen minutes was the catalyst that saw the Derry champions gain an upper hand in the match. They edged into a three point lead, Killeavy’s further score coming from Niall Cromie.

HT : Killeavy 0-04 Glen 1-4

Killeavys second half show was a typical display of heart and determination, but ultimately there was little reward, as they could find no weakness in the Derry armoury. The Glen boys were very good on the ball and in the tackle, and scores were coming from numerous avenues. Killeavy will have no complaints with the result, but everyone will look back with pride at our own team’s standout performances during the season. They have had four very tough fixtures in this Paul McGirr Cup, and every player has acquitted himself manfully. This was indicative by the way the large Killeavy support clapped the team off the field to the last man. With one last fixture, Killeavy will bid to land a county league title to the Championship one. If we can do this, we will still look back at a hell of a year.
Congratulations to the team and management for a fantastic effort, and I’m sure playing at this sort of level is only whetting the apettite of these players for the seasons to come.
