In Crossmaglen on Sunday 8th August at 5pm.
Killeavy 3-13 Keady 0-4
Killeavy U16 team put on an exemplary performance of all the skills of Gaelic football on Sunday evening to defeat a gallant Keady team in the All County U16 final in Crossmaglen. Playing on a pleasant evening, and against a fair breeze in the first half, Killeavy put in a superb tackling performance in all quarters to suffocate the Keady challenge. Keady could find no easy pass anywhere to relieve the pressure, and it eventually told. Niall King and Kealan O’Hare were particularly effictive up the right side early on, and it Michael Murphy who grabbed the early scores. Murphy is an explosive mix of size, power, speed and skill, and after a fine point, he hit the score of the night, with a goal of breathtaking quality, running 50 yards through tackles to blast to the top corner.
Niall Cromie had a superb hour at corner forward, and his constant threat resulted in 2 well taken points from play. Inspirational captain Ciaran O’Hanlon was also on the board with a point, but the knockout blows came in the form of two goals late in the first half. Michael Boyle seized on a short free to crack home a bullet to the roof of the net, while Donal O’Neill made a sublime run through the middle of the park, played a one-two and whizzed another bullet to the net.
HT: Killeavy 3-4 Keady 0-2
With the breeze at their back in the second half Killeavy played some superb football, with brilliant points coming from Niall Hollywood, Michael Boyle, Jamie Cosgrove, Kealan O’Hare and Ciaran O’Hanlon. It was a total performance from the team 1-15. Cathal Fearon was very solid under the high ball, ably supported by a sound fullback line of Patrick Byrne, Tiernan Connolly and Thomas Cassidy. The halfback line were almost flawless, all three -Niall King, Donal O’Neill and Jamie Cosgrove absolutely dominating across the line, and scoring 1-1.
In Ciaran O’Hanlon and Michael Murphy in midfield, Killeavy have two supremely talented players who showed their brilliance on the night. The half forward line tackled and harried superbly, and each man was on the scoreboard. The balance in the full forward line was also great, as the lightening quick Niall Cromie played off his bigger partners Niall Hannaway and Gary Donaghy.
Tremendous praise must go to the management team of Paddy Hollywood, John McKevitt and Gerry Mallon who had this team well disciplined, motivated and skilled to face this challenge. Everyone in Killeavy would like to see this team continue to enjoy their football and make their mark at senior level in a few years time.
