Killeavy 4-21 Grange 4-07
Killeavy faced Grange on Saturday evening in the Championship in Lissummon on a superb evening for football. The first half was extremely entertaining, with Grange looking likely to score goals from dynamic duo Siobhain Mackle and Dearbhle Toal. While they terrorised the Killeavy defence, Killeavy looked like scoring every time they attacked. The interplay was excellent, and Aileen Matthews registered 4 of Killeavy’s first five points. Sarah Doran, Aveen Dooley, Sharon Reel and Sinead Mallon all added points before Jo Shields followed in on are bound off the crossbar to score Killeavys first goal. Sinead Mallon finished a high ball to the square expertly to the net just before half time to give Killeavy a three point lead. The game was still very much all to play for, with Grange likely to score more goals.

HT: Killeavy 2-11 Grange 3-05

Killeavy looked much more convincing in the second half and put clear daylight between themselves and Grange thanks to early goals from Sinead Mallon and Sarah McDonnell. They also did much better at curtailing Grange’s strong players scoring influence.
This was a great opening game to the championship, with Killeavy kicking 24 scores, and really putting on a good all-round team performance. A special word of thanks to Aoife McAteer, who played despite her pending marriage next weekend. She managed to keep her good looks intact before being replaced just before the end.
